When is the retreat?
The retreat begins with dinner on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 6P. The retreat officially ends after the morning programming and lunch on Wednesday, February 21st at approximately 12N.

Where is the retreat?
The retreat is at the Hilton Grand Vacations at Kings Land on The Big Island of Hawaii, in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The nearest town is Kailua-Kona, HI.  The nearest airport is Kona (KOA).

How do I register?
You have two options for registration: You can either register on the Mindful-U website or you can call Katy Flatau at 773-644-1713 to register over the phone.  Set up a time to talk with Katy about the retreat by clicking here.  We accept checks, credit cards, Venmo and PayPal.

What happens once I register for the retreat?
Once you register, Mindful-U will send you your retreat welcome information and a short informational form to complete. Room selections are not guaranteed until we receive your full payment.

How do I get to the Big Island of Hawaii?
The retreat is on the Island of Hawaii. There are 2 main airports on the Big Island: Kailua Kona (KOA) and Hilo (ITO). Kona is much closer to Hawaii Island Retreat but sometimes it can be cheaper to fly into Hilo. You can fly direct to Kona or Hilo from some major mainland cities, but you can also easily connect to either one from Honolulu (HNL) using Hawaiian Airlines. Most major airlines have flights into Honolulu. Honolulu is on the Island of Oahu.

Airport transport will be provided between Kona Airport and the hote on 2/15 and 2/21. If you fly in or out of Hilo, you will need to arrange your own airport transit.

How do I get to Hilton Grand Vacations Kings’ Land?
We’ll be doing shuttle runs to/from the Kona Airport (not Hilo Airport) to Hawaii Island Retreat on Thursday 2/15 and Wednesday, 2/21.

The address & contact info for the hotel is:

USATEL: +1-808-881-3000 FAX: +1-808-881-3010

Do I need to rent a car? What about parking?
Parking at Kings’ Land is free for guests.

If you can find a good deal on a rental car, it can be an easy way to get to and from the airport, as well as to use during the retreat. Sharing a car with another retreat participant can bring the cost down even more. While you won’t NEED a car during the retreat, you will have free time if you want to explore nearby towns or make a run for some shave ice or macadamia nuts! The Big Island is definitely a “driving” island and taxis/public transit are limited.

There are shops and a grocery store within walking distance (less than a mile) of the hotel and there is a restaurant on site.

What’s not covered in the retreat price?
Almost everything is covered in your retreat price, including three meals each day, taxes, lodging, excursions and all retreat programming. There may be optional activities or meals that may incur an additional cost.

Airport transports are included on Thursday, 2/15 and Wednesday, 2/21 from the Kona Airport only (not Hilo).  Personal rental cars are not included. Any souvenirs, outside food/drink, alcoholic beverages, sunblock, spa treatments, tips/gratuities and any other services/amenities you may privately contract or purchase off site are not included in the price.

Will I have free time during the retreat?
Hawaii is a magical, beautiful place and we want you to have time to enjoy them at your pace! We’ll do some exploring as a group, but you will have free time as part of the retreat. Here are some great ways to spend that time:
– walk to the ocean
– spend some quality time by the amazing pool or in the workout center
– schedule a spa treatment or coaching session
– drive to a nearby state park
– go into town for a cup of Kona coffee or browse the shops/galleries.
– or get in a nap before dinner (jet lag happens to the best of us!)

We will also have a full day group excursion to visit Volcano National Park, as well as at trip to a local farmers market, a chartered whale watching trip, coffee tasting and a brewery tour.  I’ll take you to my favorite beach on the island!

We highly recommend planning some extra time on Hawaii (or one of the other islands) before or after the retreat – there is SO MUCH to enjoy and experience on each island!

Can I book a room at Kings’ Land to arrive early or to stay after the retreat has finished?
Yes, you can! Please use the website for Kings’ Land to make those reservations.

How do meals work? Can you accommodate special diets?
Please make sure you let Mindful-U know about any dietary restrictions or allergies when you register and we will do our best to accommodate you! Meals will be served at set times each day and we will enjoy most of our meals as a group.

Is there Wifi?
Yes, there is Wifi.

Will my phone work?
That depends on your provider. My T-Mobile and Project Fi phones worked very well on most of the Island and didn’t cost me a penny extra. Call your provider before you arrive to learn more. Otherwise, you can always hook into the wifi to use your phone at the hotel!

If you are driving and have an old-school GPS, I recommend bringing that as phone-based map services are less reliable when you’re driving up mountains and into valleys.

What spa services are available?
There are a variety of spa services available including massage and facials at the nearby Hilton Wail

Can I book additional private life coaching with Katy during the retreat?
Yes! Katy will have 1-2 sessions available each day. Special retreat pricing is available for coaching sessions: 50-minute private sessions are $150 (normally $216) and 30-minute private sessions are $85 (normally $108). Sessions will need to be booked in advance of the retreat. Contact Katy at katy@mindful-u.com to schedule.

Are there places for me to workout at the retreat center?
Yes, Kings Land has a great workout room, an amazing pool and there are plenty of trails nearby for walking or running.  There are also several golf course options in the immediate area.

I want to share a room, but I don’t have a roommate.
If you register for a double-occupancy room without a roommate, we will match you up with someone who also registers for a double-occupancy room without a roommate. If no one else registers for double-occupancy, you will be charged the single occupancy rate. Roommate matching will be done on a first available basis. If you are registering with a friend, please let us know at expand@mindful-u.com when you receive your confirmation. The double rooms & bathrooms are very spacious so sharing should not be an uncomfortable experience!

How many people will be on this retreat?
There will be no more than 10 people on this retreat. Each room has 2-bedooms.  Bedroom #1 has King-size bed and private bathroom.  Bedroom #2 has two queen/full-size beds and a shared bathroom.  We do recommend booking early so you can get your preferred room selection.

You will have ample time and opportunity to connect with the instructors and other participants. This retreat will be a personal and connected experience – no one will be lost in the crowd.

Can I smoke/drink/do drugs during the retreat?
You can smoke in designated smoking areas at the resort.  Smoking is not permitted in the rooms.  Drugs are not permitted at the retreat. We encourage you to be conscious of your alcohol intake during the retreat and request that you do not partake of any alcoholic beverages before or during workshops and some other retreat programming. Alcoholic beverages may be available at meals.

What’s the cancellation policy?
Retreat payments are non-refundale.  If you are on a payment plan, you final payment must be made by January 31, 2018. Deposits are non-refundable and can not be applied toward any other Mindful-U programming or packages.

There will be no refunds for cancellations.

Can you recommend a guidebook for The Big Island?
Yes – this one is my favorite and was a huge help on my first visit. Hawaii: The Big Island Revealed. The Secrets and Mysteries of Hawaii is also a fun book to read before you come to the island!
